The funeral service of a talented GAA player who tragically passed away in a fatal road accident in Tipperary paid tribute to her love for “music,” “travel,” and “Camogie.” Laura Kennedy, a 20-year-old, lost her life in a collision on the R495 Nenagh to Dromineer Road last Tuesday.
Mourners gathered at Ballywilliam Church in Tipperary on Sunday to bid farewell to the young woman. Her coffin was draped with the flag of Burgess-Duharra, the club she had been a part of since her early playing days, while her fellow athletes formed a guard of honor. Heartfelt tributes were shared during the service, with emotional speeches given by her father, John, and her twin sister, Ashling.
Ashling, deeply saddened, remembered Laura as a kind, intelligent, funny, and talented individual. She described Laura’s passion for fashion, intelligence, and academic success, highlighting their close bond as sisters and best friends.
John, Laura’s devastated father, spoke about the impact Laura and Ashling had on their lives. He expressed his deep love for Laura, reminiscing about their shared memories and the light she brought into their lives. He mentioned Laura’s love for music, Camogie, and travel, emphasizing the void left by her untimely departure.
Tokens symbolizing Laura’s life were presented at the service, including an accordion, her Burgess-Duharra jersey, favorite coat, hurl, a bag representing her love for travel, and a lab coat signifying her academic achievements. Laura was laid to rest at Monsea Graveyard, surrounded by her family and friends.
The community mourns the loss of a bright young talent, with memories of Laura’s spirit and passion cherished by all who knew her.
