“Unusual Overnight Heatwave to Hit Britain: Temperatures Soar”

Date:

Britons may experience an unusual surge in overnight temperatures later this month, with weather maps indicating that temperatures could remain as high as 22C during the night. The ECMWF weather model suggests that certain regions, particularly in the West Midlands, may retain heat well into the night on Wednesday, May 27. Shropshire, for instance, could still be warm at 22C even as late as midnight, while much of southern and western regions of Britain are expected to hold onto higher-than-normal temperatures.

Areas around Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds, and parts of Cheshire could also experience temperatures around 21C into the early morning hours. Similarly, warm temperatures are predicted to persist in southwest Wales, including Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with temperatures hovering around 21C.

Northern Ireland is forecasted to have overnight temperatures of around 20C, with areas near Greater Birmingham, such as Wolverhampton, also expected to remain at 20C. The southwest regions, like Bristol, Bath, and parts of Somerset, are set for a tropical-style night with temperatures near 20C. Even parts of southwest Scotland, including areas around Dumfries and Galloway, could see temperatures around 20C.

London is anticipated to have a mild night at approximately 18C, while eastern areas like Norwich, Cambridge, and Northampton may experience cooler temperatures around 15C. The Midlands, including areas around Leicester and Derby, could see temperatures hovering close to 19C.

This overnight warmth follows a similarly balmy evening on May 26, with temperatures reaching 23C across the Midlands and Shropshire, 21C in London, and up to 22C in the South West and Wales.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast from May 22 to May 31 suggests that very warm weather can be expected during the Bank Holiday weekend, with temperatures much higher than the previous week. High pressure is anticipated to bring fair, warm weather across the UK during the holiday weekend, with some cloudiness and a chance of showers in Northern Ireland and Scotland. However, temperatures are expected to be above normal, providing very warm conditions with light winds for most of the country.
