Police are in pursuit of a suspected gunman who carried out a shooting at a restaurant and then proceeded to attack others while fleeing.
The incident occurred in Turkey today, where the suspect opened fire at a restaurant in Tarsus, located in the southern part of the country, from his vehicle. Reports indicate that at least five individuals were killed and seven others were injured in a series of attacks that unfolded in the town near the port city of Mersin.
According to information from CNN Türk, the suspect allegedly used a rifle to kill his ex-wife before escaping in his car. He then fired shots at the restaurant in Kadelli Neighborhood of Tarsus from his vehicle’s window.
After the shooting at the restaurant, the suspect fled in his vehicle. Turkish news source tabyadijital.com mentioned that the suspect harmed seven individuals while making his getaway.
Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to hospitals, while security forces cordoned off the various crime scenes.
Local media reports indicate that among those who tragically lost their lives are the restaurant owner and an employee. Additionally, a shepherd tending to his flock and a lorry driver were also fatally shot.
Authorities have initiated a large-scale manhunt with helicopter support to locate and apprehend the gunman. Police are monitoring traffic on highways in the region, and drone teams are assisting in the efforts to capture the suspected shooter.
