Two children and a woman were discovered deceased in their residence, leading to the arrest of a man, with law enforcement describing the scene as extremely distressing. Emergency services were summoned to a 000 call on Monday evening in south-western Sydney, where they encountered what authorities termed as a “particularly violent scene.” The bodies of a 46-year-old woman and two children, aged 12 and four, were found inside the dwelling.
Acting Superintendent Michael Moroney disclosed to Nine News that the man, aged 47, who was apprehended in connection with the deaths, was related to the deceased individuals. The crime scene was characterized by Moroney as both traumatic and horrific.
The suspect, Md Shomon-Ahamed, was arrested at the Campbelltown residence where the victims were located. Law enforcement officers discovered him inside the same house as the deceased individuals, who had sustained lacerations and other significant injuries.
Moroney refrained from divulging specifics about any weapons recovered from the premises but confirmed the absence of firearms. The suspect was not previously known to the police, and investigators were not pursuing additional suspects at the time. Mental health considerations would be part of the ongoing inquiry.
A significant police presence remained in the suburban Sydney neighborhood, with officers maintaining a secure perimeter around the property. The investigation, spearheaded by Campbelltown detectives with support from the State Crime Command’s homicide squad, urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The unsettling incident unfolded shortly after NSW Police announced numerous arrests in a statewide crackdown on recurrent domestic violence offenders. Moroney emphasized the commitment of the police force to combat domestic violence, despite the current case not being on their radar.
Statistics from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research reported that a majority of adult female victims of domestic violence were murdered by intimate partners, while child victims were mostly slain by family members. In contrast, male victims of domestic violence were more frequently killed by individuals outside of their family or partner circle.
