The upcoming Bank Holiday Monday is expected to bring the hottest weather of the year thus far, with the Met Office projecting highs of 31C in various parts of the country.
According to the national weather service, Monday is anticipated to be “warm and dry for most,” following a “very warm” bank holiday weekend with abundant sunshine and light winds. London could experience scorching temperatures reaching 31C, while much of southern England is likely to see temperatures in the high 20s.
Weather maps by WXCharts, utilizing MetDesk data, indicate that at least 56 counties could enjoy temperatures of 26C or higher by 6pm on Monday evening. The warmer weather is expected to be widespread across England and Wales, although some exposed coastal areas may be slightly cooler, particularly in parts of south-west England, the south-east coast, Cumbria, and Yorkshire.
Only a few areas in Scotland, such as the Scottish Borders, Lothian, and Aberdeenshire, are predicted to reach similar temperatures, while Northern Ireland could see highs of 25C.
The current temperature record for this year, set on April 8 at Kew Gardens with 26.6C, may soon be surpassed.
Looking ahead to Friday to Sunday, the Met Office forecasts: “Very warm over the Bank Holiday weekend with plenty of sunshine and light winds. However, there is a possibility of some heavy, thundery showers on Saturday and rain in the northwest.”
In the long-range weather outlook from Monday, May 25, to Wednesday, June 3, the Met Office states: “Warm and dry conditions expected for most areas on Bank Holiday Monday. Throughout the week, high pressure is set to dominate much of the UK, indicating continued fine weather for most regions.
“Some patchy rain may affect the far north intermittently, with a few showers possible in the far south. Temperatures are forecasted to be above normal, with periods of very warm weather and light winds.”
