A well-known discount supermarket chain is currently holding clearance sales as it gets ready to shut down one of its stores in the United States. Save A Lot has recently closed stores in Buffalo, New York, and Newark, New Jersey, and is now making preparations to close its Lewiston, Maine branch. The exact closing date has not been finalized yet.
Customers shopping at the Lewiston store, which underwent renovations three years ago, can enjoy discounts of up to 10% on all items. Save A Lot has stated that the closure was beyond its control and has expressed deep regret over the situation.
In a social media announcement last week, store officials mentioned, “Regrettably, due to circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer able to continue serving the community that we have grown to care for so much.”
Reports indicate that popular American grocery chain Hannaford is poised to take over the 51,000-square-foot location, making it the second store in the vicinity. The new store is expected to open in the early part of next year.
A Reddit user expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s unfortunate that Hannaford is displacing Save A Lot.” Another user shared nostalgic sentiments, saying, “My grandfather used to take me to Save A Lot and Caswells for our shopping, then Edward’s for lunch. Thank you for the memories.”
Following the closure of the Lewiston store, Save A Lot will retain three remaining stores in Maine.
