A tragic incident occurred in Brion, Spain, where a two-year-old toddler lost her life after being left in a hot van for over two hours by her father. The toddler was found in the vehicle as temperatures rose to 25C after her father inadvertently failed to drop her off at nursery and proceeded to work.
The father, who had already taken his older child to school earlier, unintentionally left the toddler in the van due to a distraction caused by a phone call. The heartbreaking event took place near A Coruña in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, prompting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Reports indicate that the girl, just 29 months old, perished after spending a considerable amount of time inside the vehicle. Her mother raised the alarm when she discovered her absence at the daycare facility during her pick-up time in the afternoon. Despite efforts by medical personnel at the Bertamirans Urgent Care Centre to revive her, the toddler could not be saved and succumbed to severe dehydration and heat stroke.
Authorities from the Santiago Territorial Judicial Police Team have taken over the investigation to shed light on the sequence of events leading to the toddler’s untimely demise. Support services have been provided to the grieving family, with the community of Brion reeling from the shocking news.
In response to the tragedy, the town has declared two days of mourning, with residents urged to assemble in the town square for a minute of silence at noon the following day.
