UK Heatwave Breaks Records, Tops Italy’s Highs

Date:

New temperature maps in the UK are showing intense heat levels, with some areas reaching temperatures higher than Italy. The ongoing heatwave over the bank holiday weekend has led to record-breaking temperatures, with west London hitting 34.8C on Monday, breaking a century-old record. The heat is expected to rise further, potentially hitting 34C by 4pm according to the Met Office.

The weather forecasts indicate that England will experience temperatures in the 30C range, with highs reaching up to 31C and possibly intensifying to 34C later in the day. Meanwhile, Italy, also affected by the heatwave, will see temperatures closer to its seasonal norms.

While some regions in both countries will experience similar high temperatures in the low to mid-30s, parts of Italy near Rome are forecasted to be cooler at around 24C. Elevated areas in Italy’s center will also see lower temperatures, contrasting with the rest of the country where temperatures could reach up to 35C.

Health experts have advised caution during the heatwave, especially for older individuals who are more vulnerable to heat-related health issues. Dr. Anya Gopfert from UKHSA emphasized the importance of taking simple precautions and looking out for vulnerable individuals during the warm weather.

The extreme heat across Europe is a reminder of the changing climate patterns, with scientists warning that such heatwaves may become more common in the future.
