A teenage girl tragically passed away at Kingsbury Water Park in north Warwickshire, prompting a frantic search by her father when she went missing in the water, according to witnesses. Emergency services responded to the incident shortly after 6 pm on bank holiday Monday after receiving reports of a girl in distress in the water. Despite efforts from specialized police teams, firefighters, and paramedics, the 16-year-old girl was found lifeless in the water around 7:20 pm.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the girl was part of a group jumping from a bridge into The River Tame when she disappeared underwater. Floral tributes have been laid at the site in memory of the victim, known only as Lil.
Chief Inspector Ben Hembry, North Warwickshire Area Commander, disclosed that the authorities were alerted to youths in the water, with one requiring urgent assistance. Tragically, the teenager was located underwater and could not be revived despite the collaborative efforts of emergency responders.
Concerns were raised about youngsters engaging in bridge jumping activities, with reports indicating that similar actions are common in the area during warm weather. The community expressed shock and sadness over the incident, emphasizing the need for caution around open bodies of water, especially for individuals who may not be strong swimmers.
The incident has prompted Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service to caution the public about the hazards of entering open water, highlighting the risks of cold water shock and the importance of staying safe during water-related activities.
Kingsbury Water Park, spanning over 600 acres with 15 lakes, is under the management of Warwickshire County Council. The council extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, acknowledging the tragedy that unfolded at the park during the holiday weekend.
