Firefighters swiftly responded to an immense fire outbreak at a kosher supermarket in Golders Green this morning. The substantial volume of smoke spreading across North London prompted the London Fire Brigade to advise locals to keep their doors and windows shut along Golders Green Road.
Disturbing images circulating on social media depict the alarming scale of the fire behind Kosher Kingdom. The cause of the fire remains unidentified at this point. Despite recent attacks in the area, including arson incidents within the Jewish community in North London, there is currently no indication that today’s fire is deliberate.
The London Fire Brigade updated the public on the situation in Golders Green this morning. They reported using a 32-meter turntable ladder as a water tower to assist in combating the fire from above. Additionally, a second 32-meter turntable ladder was deployed as an observation tower to provide the Incident Commander with a strategic aerial view of the fire. The Brigade’s Drone Team was also deployed to conduct aerial surveillance of the incident, offering real-time images and thermal imagery.
The affected establishment, Kosher Kingdom, boasts of being the largest Kosher supermarket in Europe, stocking over 15,000 products and occupying 7,000 square feet of retail space. Notably, a previous fire in 2008 forced the supermarket to close temporarily due to significant damage.
In an official statement, the Metropolitan Police confirmed their response to the incident, stating that no injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with efforts focused on extinguishing the fire and ensuring public safety. Road closures have been implemented in the vicinity, including on Golders Green Road and near Beverley Gardens, with residents advised to avoid the area during firefighting operations.
Videos shared online captured the emergency response efforts at the scene, with firefighters working amidst billowing smoke. London Fire Brigade reported that approximately 100 firefighters were currently present at the scene, following numerous emergency calls earlier in the day. Multiple road closures remain in effect around the fire site, with continuous efforts to contain the blaze.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire originated in the warehouse linked to Kosher Kingdom supermarket on Golders Green Road. While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, a previous incident in 2008 was attributed to an electrical fault.
The ongoing situation continues to be monitored closely, with updates expected as the firefighting operations progress.
