Police are currently investigating a video that shows individuals “swinging weapons” on a beach in Merseyside to determine if it is connected to an incident involving a teenager who was hospitalized due to a knife injury.
The authorities were alerted to the disturbance at Crosby beach on a bank holiday Monday at approximately 5:50 pm near the boating lake. A 19-year-old woman sustained minor injuries, including a graze on her head and a superficial scratch on her arm, believed to be caused by a bladed object. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and has since been released.
A 16-year-old boy from Litherland was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and assault under section 47. He has been released on conditional bail while further investigations are underway.
In addition to the ongoing probe related to the knife incident, the police are examining the video footage showing two men wielding long objects towards a group of individuals to determine any potential links.
Detective Inspector Edward Barr of Merseyside Police has urged witnesses to come forward with any information relevant to the incidents. He emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation on social media, which could compromise the investigation’s integrity.
Following the incidents, armed police were deployed to the beach, as reported by local media, with images showing officers patrolling the area.
Regarding the victims, DI Barr expressed the significance of gathering eyewitness accounts to aid the investigation and reiterated the police’s commitment to addressing weapon-related offenses promptly.
The warm weather, with temperatures exceeding 30C across various regions including Merseyside, attracted numerous beachgoers over the weekend. Superintendent Phil Mullally emphasized the need to enjoy the pleasant weather responsibly and respect others’ safety on roads and in communities.
