A teenager who went missing while swimming in a Cheshire open water area has been found deceased. The body of the 17-year-old, who was last seen in Pickmere Lake, Northwich, was located with the help of specialized divers and a helicopter team.
Although formal identification is pending, authorities believe the body belongs to the missing youth. Chief Inspector Jamie Lewis expressed condolences to the boy’s family and friends, emphasizing the dangers of swimming in open water, especially during warm weather.
The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the hazards associated with swimming in natural bodies of water. While encouraging people to enjoy water activities responsibly, officials warned about hidden risks such as currents, mud banks, and submerged obstacles.
Law enforcement confirmed that the incident is not considered suspicious. Additionally, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service reported deploying resources to assist in the search for the teenager who entered Pickmere Lake.
This unfortunate event adds to a series of similar incidents this week, where teenagers have drowned after swimming during a heatwave.
