A young woman found herself lost at sea for nearly two days, feeling disoriented, cold, and desperately in need of water after being swept away by a strong ocean current.
Bruna Damaris Sant’Anna da Silva, 26, went missing on May 24 while riding a jet ski with Dheorge Bernardino in Ilhabela, an archipelago near Sao Paolo, Brazil. Despite extensive search efforts led by local emergency services, Mr. Bernardino has not been located, and it took a miraculous encounter to find Ms. da Silva.
Two fishermen shared the astonishing moment when they discovered the distressed woman, a nursing student from São Sebastião, who had been missing for three days. The father-and-son duo, Alex Quintino and Allan de Oliveira Quintino dos Santos, were flagged down by da Silva while out at sea with their dog Adelaide. They rescued her after she waved for their attention.
Describing the rescue, Alex mentioned that she seemed bewildered and shivering, immediately pleading for water upon being brought on board their boat, the Quilombo de Caçandoca. They had set out for a fishing expedition in Ubatuba and had a pre-planned schedule but decided to assist the woman instead.
Allan had a hunch that they might come across the missing woman during their trip, and his intuition proved right when they spotted her and brought her to safety. The fishermen believed that she had been carried far from the coast by a strong current, making it challenging for authorities to locate her.
After being rushed to an intensive care unit at the Governador Mário Covas Júnior Municipal Hospital in Ilhabela, Ms. da Silva has recovered well and been discharged. Despite sacrificing their fishing plans to help her, both father and son expressed no regrets, emphasizing the value of saving a life.
Ms. da Silva’s partner, Beatriz Luz, disclosed that she disappeared while heading to a social gathering on a speedboat and had no previous experience riding a jet ski before the incident with Mr. Bernardino, who is still missing after their jet ski capsized.
