British Shipping Company Jaco Couriers Goes into Liquidation

Date:

A British shipping company has gone into liquidation with debts totaling close to £140,000.

Jaco Couriers Limited, based in Aberdeen, was forced into liquidation after facing legal action from HMRC, as reported by The Herald.

The Advocate General, representing HMRC commissioners, presented a petition to Aberdeen Sheriff Court to dissolve the company, which employed 10 people, and appoint a liquidator. The petition, filed in February, led to the appointment of Duncan Raggett from AAB Business & Tax Advisory as the liquidator this month.

The liquidator’s office stated, “No liquidation committee has been formed.

“I do not plan to call another meeting to establish a liquidation committee unless one-tenth of the creditors, by value, request it.”

Company records from Companies House show that Jaco Couriers Limited, a company specializing in same-day courier services in Aberdeen and across the UK, had debts of £139,000 in 2024, according to the Express.

HMRC mentioned, “We strive to assist customers with tax debts and only resort to winding-up petitions after exploring all alternatives to safeguard taxpayers’ funds.”

This is not the sole Scottish business facing financial challenges recently.

Woodside Homes Limited in Glasgow has also entered members’ voluntary liquidation and is expected to settle all outstanding debts in full.

According to public records lodged at Companies House, FRP Advisory has been appointed as the liquidator after a general meeting.

Shareholders have agreed to wind up the company voluntarily, a process used when a business can meet all financial obligations but owners decide to cease operations.
