“Outrage in Makerfield Over Reform UK Candidate’s Alleged Remarks”

Date:

Makerfield residents expressed their outrage over alleged remarks made by Reform UK’s by-election candidate, creating uncertainty over the election outcome. Offensive posts attributed to 41-year-old Robert Kenyon before his political career surfaced recently, prompting criticism from the party’s senior MP. Kenyon was accused of making derogatory comments about women who have abortions and expressing sexist views on a forum. Additionally, he was accused of sharing degrading posts about Carol Vorderman on social media.

A spokesperson for Reform UK defended Kenyon, stating that the comments were made years before his entry into politics and portrayed him as an “ordinary man” rather than a polished politician. The community in Ashton-in-Makerfield, the constituency’s largest town, shared their disapproval of Kenyon’s alleged statements, with some residents labeling them as insulting and bigoted. Concerns were raised about the impact of Kenyon’s comments on the by-election result, with one resident suggesting that it could sway female voters towards opponent Andy Burnham.

While some voters stood by Kenyon, citing his character from schooldays, others praised Burnham’s achievements in the area and expressed support for his bid to represent Makerfield. The prospect of a different party gaining ground in the election was raised, with a recent poll showing potential support for a breakaway party, Restore Britain. Signs of voter shift were observed during a visit to Ashton-in-Makerfield, with indications that some Reform voters may be turning towards Restore. Criticism was also directed at Farage’s party, with one voter likening it to the Conservative establishment.

Labour voters also voiced their opinions, with one individual commending Farage’s abilities but questioning the timing of government criticism. The article highlighted the evolving political landscape in Makerfield, emphasizing voter sentiments towards the candidates and parties contesting the by-election.
