Jonathan Andic, aged 45, who was recently arrested under suspicion of murdering his 71-year-old billionaire father, Isak, the co-founder of Mango clothing retailer, has released new video footage aiming to demonstrate his innocence. The arrest occurred 17 months after Isak fell to his death from a cliff during a hike near Barcelona. Jonathan was granted release on bail after paying €1 million (£866,000) and vehemently denies the allegations, labeling them as severe, unjust, and baseless accusations.
The newly shared CCTV footage by Jonathan’s legal team portrays Isak stumbling and falling on the pavement outside a building in Barcelona, supported by two individuals nearby. This incident reportedly took place about ten months before his fatal mountain fall. Prosecutors argue that the absence of defensive hand marks on Isak’s body suggests a deliberate push into the ravine, as accidental fall victims typically exhibit such injuries. In contrast, Andic’s defense contends that the fall captured in the video accounts for the lack of defensive wounds on Isak’s hands.
Moreover, the defense team highlights that the mountain rescue unit’s investigations failed to conclusively determine the exact circumstances of the fall. Jonathan, in an open letter, announced his temporary withdrawal from Mango’s leadership amid the ongoing legal proceedings while refuting the murder claims vigorously. He criticized the one-sided and distorted public narrative surrounding the case, emphasizing the need for a fair evaluation of the facts.
Addressing investigators’ assertions of a toxic relationship, Jonathan emphasized the positive moments shared with his father and the challenges overcome together. Mango’s board of directors expressed confidence in a favorable resolution of the legal process and hoped for a swift conclusion.
