A tragic incident at a nursery school in Monclova, Mexico, resulted in the death of six-year-old Ian Gael Hernández. While playing on a swing during school hours, the metal structure unexpectedly collapsed, causing Ian to fall and hit his head on the stones at the playground’s edge.
Family members, concerned about the delayed arrival of an ambulance, swiftly transported Ian to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that Ian had no vital signs upon arrival.
Following the incident, the Coahuila State Attorney General’s Office initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the swing’s collapse and assess any potential lapses in maintenance, supervision, or safety protocols at María Helena Chanes nursery school.
Local residents raised alarms about the playground equipment’s prolonged state of disrepair, highlighting concerns regarding neglect in maintaining the play area. The swing involved in the tragic accident was subsequently removed from the preschool two days after the incident, with classes yet to resume.
Ian leaves behind grieving parents, grandparents, a four-year-old sister, and a two-year-old brother. His mother, Escarleth Guel Puente, expressed her profound sorrow online, lamenting the loss of her beloved child and expressing regret over sending him to nursery school on that fateful day.
