“24/7 Support Hub Launched for Terror Attack Victims”

Date:

Families and individuals affected by terrorist attacks will now have access to continuous support, marking a significant advancement for victims. Home Office minister Dan Jarvis announced the overhaul of the existing system for trauma and grief assistance, addressing concerns raised by those impacted by incidents such as the attacks on Westminster Bridge, Tunisian resorts, and Manchester Arena.

A new 24/7 Victim and Survivors Support Hub will be launched on Monday, uniting various organizations including the NHS to provide comprehensive support. Cheryl Stollery, advocating for centralized support since 2015, expressed optimism about the new service, emphasizing the importance of tailored assistance for those dealing with the aftermath of such tragic events.

Travis Frain, a survivor of the 2017 Westminster Bridge attack, highlighted the challenges faced by victims in accessing necessary support post-terror incidents. He stressed the significance of a streamlined support system to prevent victims from being left to navigate various services alone, risking further deterioration of their well-being and playing into the hands of terrorists.

The Support Hub’s introduction precedes the upcoming National Day for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism on 21 August, where Victim Support, the Peace Collective, and West London NHS Trust will collaborate to offer expert guidance. Mr. Jarvis emphasized the Hub’s role in simplifying and enhancing support services for individuals rebuilding their lives after a terrorist attack, ensuring timely emotional and practical assistance through dedicated caseworkers and personalized support plans.

Moreover, the Support Hub will have specialized caseworkers available to assist children and young people in need. Katie Kempen, chief executive at Victim Support, acknowledged the profound impact of terror attacks on victims and their families, underscoring the importance of timely and appropriate support in facilitating recovery.

By prioritizing victims’ needs and streamlining support services, the new Victim and Survivors Support Hub aims to offer comprehensive assistance to those affected by terrorism, reinforcing their journey towards healing and resilience.
