“Armed Response in Teignmouth: Man Apprehended After Threats”

Armed police rushed to Teignmouth, a coastal town, over the weekend in response to reports of threats involving a firearm. Concerns were raised on social media about a “man with a gun” spotted near Back Beach on Saturday night, causing unease in the local area and prompting Devon and Cornwall Police to intervene.

Following a report of an assault in Queen Street near the town center at 8:55 pm, the police confiscated a “non-viable firearm.” Limited details were provided by the authorities, as confirmed by local news outlet Devon Live.

A man in his 60s was apprehended by a police armed response team on suspicion of GBH with intent, affray, and possession of an imitation firearm. He was subsequently released on police bail. The victim of the assault sustained a facial injury, according to police statements.

Witnesses observed a significant police presence near the Ship Inn pub on Queen Street, where the road was reportedly closed during the incident.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police stated, “We received a call at 8:55 pm on Saturday, May 30, regarding an assault in Queen Street, Teignmouth. There were reports of a firearm being present and threats being made. Armed officers arrived, arrested a male in his 60s on suspicion of GBH with intent, affray, and possession of an imitation firearm, and he has been released on police bail. The victim suffered a facial injury, and a non-functional firearm was recovered from the scene.”
