After a scorching 35C heatwave last week, temperatures have now returned to typical levels for this time of year. However, there may be a resurgence with some parts of the UK potentially reaching 30C soon.
The Met Office predicts that temperatures will range from 19C to 22C across the country this week. Tomorrow could bring thunderstorms and heavy showers in certain areas.
The GFS weather model suggests a brief respite from the current conditions, as temperatures could soar back to 30C by June 11, primarily in the south-east around London.
Following this, similar highs are expected on June 15 and June 16, with temperatures reaching as high as 28C even in regions like Yorkshire. The south-east is likely to see another peak of 30C on June 16, while the rest of the UK can expect temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s.
Temperature anomaly maps show significant deviations from the seasonal average in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, indicating above-average temperatures. Around 16 counties could experience temperatures of 28C or higher over the next three days.
The Met Office has hinted at potentially “hot” temperatures later this month but also warned of possible thunderstorm activity.
Looking ahead to June 16-30, the Met Office forecasts relatively settled conditions initially, with high pressure bringing dry weather to most parts of the UK. However, showers or rain spells are still possible, with temperatures likely to be above normal. Towards the end of June, low pressure may lead to increased shower and thunderstorm activity, especially in the south, with the possibility of hot weather in some southern areas.
