A woman wanted in connection with serious child sex offenses in Lithuania was discovered hiding in a closet in Northern Ireland, according to the police.
The 23-year-old woman was apprehended by the International Policing Unit after entering a rural property in Coalisland. She was arrested based on a Lithuanian extradition warrant. The PSNI stated that officers found her concealed in a wardrobe.
She is sought by Lithuanian authorities to serve a prison term for serious sexual offenses against a child in the Mazeikiai region. Her upcoming appearance is scheduled at Laganside Extradition Court on Thursday.
Sergeant Davey of the PSNI’s International Policing Unit mentioned, “Despite the fugitive’s attempts to evade the consequences of her actions, she was apprehended today.”
He emphasized that the arrest demonstrates the commitment to pursuing offenders and supporting victims. This event showcases the PSNI’s ongoing efforts to apprehend individuals wanted for serious crimes in Europe.
Superintendent Marty Reid, also from the International Policing Unit, affirmed the PSNI’s dedication to capturing fugitives and cooperating with European law enforcement agencies.
He further highlighted the collaboration with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol, and Europol to ensure justice for victims both locally and internationally.
