“Autopsy Reveals Victims’ Harrowing Final Moments”

Date:

An autopsy has uncovered that the victims of Bryan Kohberger endured significant pain and suffering during a violent incident at a student residence.

Autopsy reports, recently disclosed by the Ada County court, detailed the final moments of Kohberger’s victims from the University of Idaho. Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Ethan Chapin, 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20, succumbed to multiple sharp-force injuries while most were asleep around 4 am on November 13, 2022.

Following his guilty plea, criminology student Kohberger received four consecutive life sentences for the murders. Authorities revealed that Kohberger had visited the students’ residence on multiple occasions before the fatal event.

The autopsy examination, led by Dr. Veena Singh, Spokane’s chief medical examiner, indicated that all four victims sustained injuries consistent with a “Ka-Bar Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife,” believed to be the murder weapon.

Additionally, it was noted that different parts of the weapon might have caused other wounds. One victim, Kaylee, suffered blunt-force injuries to the face, with an unidentified object used to cover her mouth, as reported by the New York Post.

Kernodle, who was not in bed during the assault, sustained injuries to her arms and hands. Law enforcement discovered a leather sheath matching the blade in the bed alongside two other victims, Kaylee and Madison.

Prosecutors confirmed Kohberger’s DNA presence on the sheath. Through genetic analysis, investigators linked potential leads to Kohberger, who attended classes approximately 10 miles away from the shared residence.

Kohberger was apprehended at his parents’ residence in Pennsylvania on December 30, 2022. The release of the autopsy report coincides with ongoing court proceedings, aiming to provide further details to the public about the case.

Kohberger, pursuing a PhD in criminology at Washington State University, opted for a guilty plea to avoid a potential death sentence by firing squad.

Recently unveiled crime scene photographs, numbering in the thousands and depicting signs of struggle, were briefly made public by Idaho State Police. The graphic images revealed bloodstains on bed sheets, walls, furniture, and personal items before being promptly removed.

Following the photo release, Kristi, the mother of victim Ms. Goncalves, expressed her emotions on Facebook, wishing for retribution against Kohberger through a post on January 30.
