An explosion in a popular Italian tourist spot has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries following the sudden collapse of a building. The incident occurred in Porto Sant ‘Elpidio when a two-story structure was devastated by a powerful blast believed to have been triggered by a gas leak early on Saturday morning.
Rescuers recovered the lifeless body of a man from the debris, while two families were inside the building at the time of the explosion, causing widespread panic in the town and prompting an immediate emergency response. Among those trapped were a child and the victim’s elderly parents, who received initial treatment on-site before being transported to a hospital for further care.
A woman caught in the blast was airlifted to a hospital in Torrette di Ancona for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, another woman remains unaccounted for in the wreckage, leading firefighters to utilize drones, dogs, and excavators in a frantic search operation.
The force of the explosion completely destroyed the building, as reported by local news sources, also damaging windows of neighboring shops and structures.
