“Police Investigate Suspicious Items in Fallowfield”

Date:

Officers responding to reports of a suspicious object in a front yard in Fallowfield have uncovered another questionable item inside a residence just a few feet away.

The second item was detected outside a property on Rostherne Avenue at approximately 2:45 pm on Sunday, as confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. No individuals have been apprehended, and investigations are in progress.

This development transpired subsequent to authorities being summoned to evaluate a suspicious object on Abram Close – a street connecting to Rostherne Avenue – shortly after 6 pm on Saturday. A unit specialized in bomb disposal assessed the item, prompting the precautionary evacuation of residents in approximately 20 nearby dwellings. Following the evaluation, the cordon was lifted, allowing residents to return later in the evening.

On Sunday afternoon, the police force reinstated a cordon and evacuated several residences in the vicinity. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have revisited the area, deploying specialized explosive robots at the site.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley stated, “We appreciate the community’s patience as we address this incident while our investigation into the complete circumstances progresses.” He reassured the public that despite causing local concern, there is no broader threat. Numerous road closures are in effect, urging individuals to steer clear of the region and seek alternative routes.

“Officers are present to ensure the safety of nearby residents – feel free to approach them with any worries. It is imperative that anyone possessing information, regardless of its significance, reports it for investigation,” added Morley.

Individuals possessing information, CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, or mobile phone videos are urged to reach out to the authorities through the LiveChat service on gmp.police.uk or by dialing 0161 856 4259, referencing log number 1948 of 07/06/26.

Moreover, information can be shared confidentially with the independent charity Crimestoppers by dialing 0800 555 111 or visiting the Crimestoppers website.
