Ukrainian military forces have conducted a series of attacks targeting oil facilities and a passenger train in Russia and the Russian-occupied Crimea region, according to officials.
A significant plume of smoke was observed rising from the Grushovaya oil trans-shipment base, where Russian authorities reported that 130 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the resulting flames.
Simultaneously, a Ukrainian drone launched an attack on a passenger train traveling from Moscow to Simferopol in occupied Crimea, resulting in injuries to the train driver and the unfortunate death of the driver’s assistant, as reported by Sergei Aksyonov, the Kremlin-appointed regional leader.
Subsequent to the incident, all passenger train services in Crimea were suspended, with passengers evacuated and alternative bus transportation arranged by Russian operator Grand Service Express through its Telegram channel.
The Russian Defense Ministry disclosed that their forces successfully downed 310 Ukrainian drones during the overnight operations, spanning regions including Moscow, western and south-western Russia, Russian-occupied Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
Conversely, Russia launched 155 drones targeting Ukraine, with the Ukrainian Air Force reporting the interception or suppression of 124 of these aerial threats.
Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces carried out strikes in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region overnight, specifically targeting the Grushovaya oil trans-shipment base near Novorossiysk—a crucial hub for oil and petroleum product transfers in southern Russia.
Regional authorities in Russia acknowledged that a Ukrainian drone caused a fire at the facility, with no casualties reported. Efforts to combat the blaze involved 130 rescue workers and 39 units of equipment.
Additionally, the Krasny Yar “linear production and dispatching station” in the Volgograd region was hit, resulting in a fire outbreak, as reported by the General Staff. Russian governor Andrei Bocharov assured that there were no injuries, although the station’s exact production activities were not disclosed.
Further attacks by Ukrainian forces targeted the Semykolodezkaya oil base in the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula, igniting a fire at the installation used for storing fuel reserves supplied to the Russian military, as outlined in the Telegram statement. Another strike hit an oil depot near Feodosia in Crimea, according to the General Staff’s statement.
