“Alpine Advances in Right of Review for Gasly’s Monaco Penalties”

Date:

The aftermath of the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend has faced new uncertainty as Alpine has progressed in their Right of Review application. Following the race in Monte Carlo, Alpine triggered a review concerning two penalties given to their driver, Pierre Gasly, for exceeding the pit lane speed limit by a minimal margin. Gasly, who finished third on the track, was penalized twice, resulting in his final position dropping to seventh.

Alpine met the demanding threshold required to present new and relevant evidence for their Right of Review. They argued that the stewards were unaware of timing loop issues in the pit lane, impacting the accuracy of speed measurements during the Grand Prix. Additionally, they provided data supporting Gasly’s compliance with speed limits and highlighted inaccuracies in the timing loop distances that overestimated car speeds.

The case will proceed to a second hearing where Alpine will challenge Gasly’s penalties. If successful, the Monaco race results could be revised, potentially affecting other teams with similar penalties. George Russell also faced repercussions for not serving his penalty correctly, raising questions about the resolution of his situation.
