“Extreme Weather Photography Contest Seeks Global Talent”

Date:

The search for the Weather Photographer of the Year is underway, featuring stunning images capturing the beauty of natural phenomena such as a circular rainbow, a Texas storm, and a cloud resembling a UFO. The Royal Meteorological Society has showcased a selection of last year’s winning photographs for this esteemed competition, now in its second decade. Photographers worldwide are invited to submit compelling images that showcase the strength, splendor, and influence of weather.

The competition highlights exceptional photography depicting both extraordinary weather events and the increasing impact of climate change. Notable images from the previous year include cloud formations resembling waves in the Czech Republic, fishermen in the rain in Myanmar, and striking sea conditions at Newhaven on the southern coast of the UK.

Prof Liz Bentley FRMetS, Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society, emphasized the competition’s role in illustrating how weather shapes our environment, from moments of natural wonder to events of significant consequence. As climate patterns evolve, these images serve a crucial purpose in enhancing public understanding and engagement with weather and climate science.

The competition is open to photographers of all skill levels, offering a platform for both seasoned professionals and passionate amateurs. Winners will be announced in November, with no entry fees required for participation. Maria del Pilar Trigo Bonnin’s mesmerizing photograph titled “Heading Home” adds to the allure of this prestigious competition.
