“Military Aircraft Crash Sparks Wildfire Near Rimrock Lake”

A U.S. military aircraft crashed in flames near Rimrock Lake, stunning onlookers as the pilot successfully ejected just before impact. The incident triggered a wildfire, prompting response efforts by Naches Fire and U.S. Forest Service crews.

The Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing confirmed the crash involved an F/A-18 Hornet based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar during routine training. Campers were evacuated, and the public advised to steer clear of the wildfire-affected area.

Naches Fire reported ongoing suppression efforts with helicopters and Forest Service engines. The pilot, who safely ejected, was taken to the hospital. Structure protection near Bear Creek cabins was completed, with continued monitoring and mop-up operations planned.
