A tragic incident occurred where an unborn baby lost its life in a car accident during a police pursuit. The woman, in her twenties, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by the baby’s father when they were struck by a vehicle fleeing from the police due to cloned number plates. The collision took place around 11:30 pm on June 13 on Lewisham Way.
Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, rushed the pregnant woman to the hospital. Despite their efforts, the unborn baby did not survive. The woman is currently receiving medical treatment, and her condition is stable. Fortunately, the driver of their vehicle was unharmed.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle, a 29-year-old man, was apprehended on charges of causing death by dangerous driving, serious injury by dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle, failure to stop, and possession of class A drugs. He was also hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and have cleared the crime scene. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed as the baby’s death occurred during a police pursuit.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Quinton, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to the affected family and urged anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward. Those with information can contact the police by calling 101 and quoting CAD 8670/13JUN.
