The Princess of Wales was observed gazing at anti-monarchy protestors as they voiced their disapproval of the royal family during the Trooping the Colour parade in a video circulating on social media.
Despite some commotion, the historic event saw members of the pressure group Republic making noise on The Mall with their distinctive yellow signs advocating for the monarchy’s abolition.
The protestors directed their strongest demonstrations at King Charles and Queen Camilla, who led the carriage procession to Horse Guards parade, while Princess Kate and her three children followed closely behind. Prince William, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne participated in the parade on horseback.
Kate appeared unbothered by the heckling, responding to chants of ‘Not My King’ aimed at the sovereign. The protestors also sang anti-royal songs and unfurled umbrellas spelling out ‘Stop The Reign.’
Although she briefly acknowledged the campaigners, who had secured a prominent spot on The Mall since early morning, Kate soon resumed interacting with her children in the carriage.
The group has been a presence at numerous royal events over the years, including the Commonwealth Day service in March and Charles’ coronation.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond acknowledged that while the protestors may divert attention from the royals’ duties, the Firm has little choice but to continue with business as usual.
Jennie emphasized that the royals are accustomed to dealing with protestors and have learned to focus on their loyal supporters rather than the noise of dissent.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared highlights from the Trooping the Colour event on their Kensington Royal Instagram account, expressing gratitude for a memorable day.
Prince Harry, who was absent from the London event, shared a message about the Invictus Games during a ceremony in Dusseldorf, highlighting the significance of the international event for wounded military service members.
He conveyed his appreciation to participants and encouraged them to lean on each other for support and celebrate their achievements at the games.
