£20,000 Reward Offered in 30-Year-Old Cold Case Murder

Date:

A reward of £20,000 is now available for anyone who can help solve the 30-year-old cold case murder of a law student. Janet Murgatroyd, aged 20, was tragically found dead in a river after a night out. Andrew Geenwood, then 28, was initially convicted of manslaughter in 2003 and served eight years in prison. However, his conviction was later overturned on appeal.

Janet’s mother, Mary, has made a heartfelt plea for justice, stating, “Janet Murgatroyd, my only child, was brutally murdered 30 years ago. The perpetrator is still at large; someone knows who this man is.” Janet was last seen leaving a pub in Preston, Lancashire, with a man before her body was discovered in the River Ribble.

Authorities believe the attack was sexually motivated, and witnesses reported hearing a woman’s cries near the riverbank. Janet’s cause of death was determined to be drowning and head injuries. Lancashire Police are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward to help solve this long-standing case.

Detective Chief Inspector Bryony Midgley emphasized the importance of finding justice for Janet, highlighting advancements in DNA technology that could aid in the investigation. She appealed to the public, especially those who were in the area on the fateful night of June 15 to June 16, to assist with any relevant information. The investigation team remains dedicated to uncovering the truth and bringing closure to Janet’s family.
