An individual who instructs bungee jumping faced charges after a woman tragically fell to her death from a bridge following a shocking incident involving a child.
Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, the instructor, was charged in connection with the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who plunged from a 130-foot high bridge in Limerira, Sao Paulo state, Brazil. Surveillance footage captured the distressing moment when Maria was taken to the edge of the bridge by two employees of the company and then thrown off without being securely attached to a safety rope.
Although Maria initially survived the fall, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after and was laid to rest the next day. Egoroff, along with Vitor de Freitas Goncalves and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, faced homicide charges in relation to the incident. Reports indicated that the employees fled the scene after Maria’s fatal fall but were located shortly thereafter by a helicopter team.
A disturbing video emerged online showing Egoroff performing a jump with a young child at the same bridge where the tragic incident occurred. In the video posted on Instagram in May 2023, the child was seen clinging to Egoroff’s neck as they leaped off the bridge together.
The legal representative for Egoroff and the team emphasized their extensive experience in bungee jumping activities and highlighted that, prior to this incident, they had not encountered any fatalities during their jumps. Reports suggested that the bungee jumping company may have been operating without the necessary licenses. An investigation into Maria’s death is currently ongoing.
Prior to the fatal accident, Maria posted a photo of the bridge on Instagram with a caption questioning the decision to jump off the bridge. Tributes poured in for Maria, a prospective physical education teacher, following her tragic death. Her mother expressed deep sorrow and love for her daughter in a social media post, thanking her for being a part of her life for 21 years.
Brazilian newspaper Estadao reported on the emotional messages shared by Maria’s mother, reflecting on the pain of her daughter’s departure and the privilege of being her mother. The community mourned the loss of the young woman, highlighting the impact she had on those around her.
