McDonald’s in Australia will be adjusting the price of its popular “cost-of-living” meal following the end of its price promise. The McSmart Meal, introduced in June 2024, includes a Cheeseburger, Small Fries, Small Soft Drink, and a choice of side for AUD6.95. Amid concerns about the country’s high cost of living, rumors circulated in April suggesting the meal might be removed from the menu after a customer noticed a stipulation that it would be available until June 30, 2026.
Social media misinformation spread panic among loyal customers, with one TikTok user expressing worry over the potential discontinuation of the beloved meal. However, McDonald’s Australia has clarified that the McSmart Meal will remain on the menu, albeit with a price increase of one dollar starting July 1.
Joe Chiczewski, CEO of McDonald’s Australia, emphasized that while the 12-month price promise on the McSmart Meal is ending, the commitment to providing value remains unchanged. The updated AUD7.95 deal now includes options like a Cheeseburger or Chicken ‘n’ Cheese with a Small Fries, Small Soft Drink, and a choice of side such as 3-piece Chicken McNuggets, Hash Brown, Hot Apple Pie, or Cookies.
Moreover, McDonald’s has introduced two new additions to the McSmart range: the “McSmart Plus” offering a McDouble, Small Fries, Small Soft Drink, and a choice of side for AUD9.95, and the “McSmart Saver” exclusively available on the MyMacca’s app, featuring a Hamburger, Small Fries, Small Soft Drink, and 3-piece Chicken McNuggets for AUD6.95.
The company hopes that the news of the McSmart Meal staying on the menu will be positively received by customers.
