Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has undergone a successful lung transplant procedure at a hospital in Norway. The princess, married to Crown Prince Haakon, has been fighting pulmonary fibrosis since 2018 and has been using an oxygen mask at recent events.
The Norwegian Royal Family confirmed that the 52-year-old princess is recovering well after the surgery, as stated by Head of Thoracic Surgery at Oslo University Hospital, Arna Tiane, who reported a successful outcome.
“We are thankful for the smooth progress of the lung transplant,” Tiane expressed gratitude to the medical team involved. Crown Princess Mette-Marit will remain hospitalized at Rikshospitalet for several weeks for medication adjustments and rehabilitation, according to Are Holm, head of the Pulmonology Department.
In an official statement, the Royal Family of Norway announced, “Crown Princess Mette-Marit has undergone a successful lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet.” The Crown Prince and Princess are appreciative of the supportive messages during this challenging time.
Recently, Crown Prince Haakon shared that their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, has returned from studying in Australia to be with her mother due to her deteriorating health. Princess Ingrid Alexandra plans to return to Australia to complete her studies, with uncertainty about the duration of her stay in Oslo.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian palace disclosed that Princess Mette-Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, received a four-year prison sentence for two counts of rape. The convictions involved incidents in 2018 at the Crown Prince’s estate and another in Oslo in 2024, along with mistreatment of an ex-girlfriend. Two additional rape allegations were dismissed.
