“Naples Named Cheapest Spot for Aperol Spritz in Europe”

Date:

During the summer months in the Mediterranean, it’s common to see tables adorned with large glasses of Aperol Spritz. This popular orange beverage has become a must-have on holidays, whether enjoyed at a quaint café in an ancient town or a seaside bar with simple furnishings.

Like many holiday indulgences, the cost of Aperol Spritz has been steadily increasing in popular destinations, making it a pricey treat. However, there are still places where you can savor this refreshing cocktail without breaking the bank, and one city has been identified as the most budget-friendly location to sip on a cool Aperol.

A recent Aperol Spritz index compiled by travel money provider eurochange highlights the top ten cheapest European destinations to enjoy this summertime drink without worrying about overspending. Fortunately, the most economical spot is just a short three-hour flight away from the UK.

According to the study, Naples in Italy emerges as the most affordable place to order an Aperol, with an average price of €2 (around £1.73), and a renowned bar is known for serving these cocktails at just one Euro (approximately 86p). Despite its humble setting of tables squeezed into an alleyway and drinks served in plastic cups, the vibrant ambiance at Cammarota Spritz has garnered numerous positive reviews, with one patron describing it as: “Our top bar in Naples, no fuss with differing prices for ‘drink-in’ or ‘takeaway’, no added service fees, just great value Spritz.”

After enjoying a few affordable spritzes, you might find yourself craving another local specialty; Naples is renowned as the birthplace of modern pizza, offering numerous spots where you can grab a quick slice. A favorite snack among locals is pizza al portafoglio, also known as ‘wallet pizza’ as it is folded and served in paper for easy consumption while strolling back to your accommodation.

Naples is an excellent choice for a city break in spring or autumn, boasting approximately 210 sunny days annually, allowing visitors to explore the historic winding streets and visit attractions like the Museo Cappella Sansevero, home to the exquisite marble Veiled Christ sculpture.

Discover the city’s ancient sites at Napoli Sotterranea, an underground network of streets and squares constructed beneath the surface by Romans and Greeks. Journey through narrow aqueduct tunnels, explore World War 2 air raid shelters, and ascend through a hatch into the ancient Roman theater of Neapolis.

Naples also offers a range of beaches, including smaller sandy stretches on the city’s outskirts. While these urban beaches can be compact and crowded during peak temperatures, they are perfect for a quick dip in the Mediterranean when time is limited.

For a day by the sea, buses can take you to beach clubs or public beaches further along the coast. Close to Naples, Gaiola Beach is famous for its sea islets connected by bridges, while the rugged coastline of Scoglione Marechiaro is renowned for its crystal-clear waters.
