A young boy, identified as Tsou, was discovered adrift in the ocean on a large piece of polystyrene after he failed to show up for school. The 11-year-old student was absent from his primary school class, prompting his teacher to contact his parents, who were unreachable. Tsou, from a vulnerable family, was unresponsive when social services visited his home, leading to a missing-person report.
Later that day, a fisherman spotted Tsou floating near the Zhonggang River in Taiwan on a polystyrene block. Authorities were alerted, and the coastguard successfully rescued Tsou. It was revealed that Tsou may have traveled alone from a neighboring town to the seaside for recreation.
The circumstances surrounding Tsou’s ocean drift are still under investigation, with the Miaoli County Government’s Education Department providing support for Tsou and his family. In a similar incident two years ago in Brazil, a young boy was found floating inside a transparent bubble off the coast of Ubatuba by a vigilant sailor. The boy had drifted out to sea while playing on the beach inside the bubble, which had broken loose. The sailor, Rafael Graça do Prado, ensured the boy’s safety and expressed concerns about his oxygen supply inside the bubble.
