“London Police Arrest 2 Over ‘Red vs Blue’ School Wars Trend”

Date:

Two individuals, a man in his 20s and a 15-year-old boy, have been apprehended in Central East London for their alleged involvement in promoting a popular social media trend known as “Red vs Blue.” The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the arrests were made on suspicion of inciting or aiding a criminal act. Both suspects are currently in custody as the authorities investigate their connection to a recent viral trend where students were reportedly encouraged to participate in violent confrontations referred to as “school wars.”

The emergence of the “Red vs Blue” trend on platforms like TikTok and Snapchat sparked concerns among London schools, leading to increased police presence and cautionary advisories. The trend involved designating schools into color-coded teams and suggesting armed encounters between rival factions. Some online posts even recommended participants to equip themselves with sharp objects, escalating the potential for harm.

While no actual physical altercations have been reported so far, the dissemination of posts and videos advocating violence in exchange for “points” caused unease within the community. Specific posts identified schools in North London and Hackney, urging students to assemble with various items, including scissors, rulers, knives, compasses, combs, and fireworks. The posts mentioned multiple boroughs, such as Hackney, Islington, Redbridge, and Croydon, encompassing a total of 26 schools aligned with the opposing teams.

In response to the online frenzy, law enforcement implemented Section 35 disposal orders to preempt any criminal activity or disorder. Although the situation did not escalate to physical altercations, the misleading content triggered localized anxiety, prompting some parents to collect their children directly from school premises as a precautionary measure.

The dissemination of fake content, including AI-generated images of individuals wearing red and blue balaclavas, contributed to the chaos surrounding the trend. The Metropolitan Police spokesperson emphasized the presence of a heightened police force outside schools in London to ensure the safety and security of students and the community.

The authorities stated, “Both suspects, a man in his 20s and a 15-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of encouraging or assisting in a crime and remain in police custody. A robust collaborative effort involving law enforcement, educational institutions, and parents has been crucial in safeguarding young individuals amid this recent social media trend.”
