Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are standing trial for allegedly murdering a 15-year-old boy in a sword attack in Glasgow. Amen Teklay was discovered severely injured on Clarendon Street and tragically passed away on March 5 last year.
The accusation states that the two masked teenage boys assaulted the schoolboy with a frying pan and a sword or similar weapon at Glenfarg Street and Clarendon Street, resulting in his fatal injuries. The defendants, who are unnamed due to being minors, reportedly chased Amen and struck him with the sword, leading to his death.
Both teenagers have denied the charges, with the 16-year-old asserting self-defense as a special defense. Additionally, the 16-year-old is accused of attempting to obstruct justice by concealing a blood-stained top and disposing of a weapon on the same day.
Furthermore, the 16-year-old faces separate charges of behaving threateningly towards Amen on a prior occasion and unlawfully possessing a blade in various locations in Glasgow between March 2 and 5, 2025. Another allegation implicates the 16-year-old in assaulting Amen with two others on a different date.
The trial, overseen by Lord Colbeck at the High Court in Glasgow, commenced with jurors being sworn in on June 18. The jurors were instructed to base their verdicts on the evidence presented during the trial.
Both teenagers have pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
