Two women are in critical condition after a telegraph pole collapsed on them at a bustling train station. The incident occurred in Rhondda, Wales, at 12:50 pm on Thursday, prompting an air ambulance to rush to the scene where the women were trapped under the pole.
Reports indicate that one of the women sustained “life-threatening” injuries, while the other was also described as being in critical condition following the incident at Pontyclun train station. The pole, which had live electricity wires, struck the women in the station’s car park before they were quickly taken to University Hospital of Wales.
According to a police spokesperson from South Wales Police, they received a call at 12:50 pm regarding the two women trapped under the telegraph pole at Pontyclun train station’s car park. The women are currently receiving medical treatment at University Hospital of Wales.
Pontyclun station, situated on the south Wales line between Cardiff and Maesteg, serves regional Swanline services running between Cardiff Central and Swansea. The station is unstaffed, and the incident has raised concerns about safety at the location.
