One individual has passed away following a collision between two freight trains on a railway bridge in Germany during the night, as confirmed by officials. The incident took place in the northern part of Munich, specifically in Milbertshofen, resulting in two train carriages falling off the bridge onto the street below. Emergency services were notified at 1:40 am CEST (12:40 am BST), and approximately 60 first responders were dispatched to the location, according to a spokesperson from the fire department.
The person involved in the crash was not identified by the German news agency dpa, which also stated that the cause of the collision was not yet determined. Reportedly, the carriages plummeted around 16 feet from the bridge, leading to the closure of the street beneath by Munich police. They advised drivers to steer clear of the area as recovery and clearing operations were underway.
According to dpa, the derailed wagons were empty, posing no threat to public safety. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
This incident marks the second fatal train collision within two days, following a crash involving two passenger trains in Bedford on Friday, resulting in one fatality and 28 individuals being hospitalized.
