“Woman Barred from Flight for ‘Revealing’ Outfit”

Date:

A woman was denied boarding a flight during a heatwave for wearing shorts and a crop top that were deemed too revealing. Edda Pilz, also known as Edda Elisa online, encountered the issue at the boarding gate while trying to catch a Lufthansa flight, where she was informed that her attire appeared overly revealing.

Despite the scorching temperature exceeding 30C, the 25-year-old opted for sportswear to stay cool. However, her choice of outfit led to her being refused entry onto the plane.

Edda recounted being stopped by a Lufthansa staff member when she tried to scan her boarding pass. The employee allegedly stated, “You cannot board,” citing her attire as the reason.

Upon questioning the staff member as to why she couldn’t board, Edda was informed, “You have nothing on. You are naked.” Despite Edda considering her outfit as typical sportswear, she was instructed to cover up. After donning a jacket, she was then required to fully zip it before being allowed to proceed with boarding.

Expressing her willingness to adhere to rules, Edda requested clarity on the airline’s regulations. In response, Lufthansa stated that the specific language used did not align with their standards and emphasized the importance of passengers wearing attire suitable for public travel that respects the comfort of diverse passengers.

Lufthansa highlighted the discretion granted to staff in ensuring compliance with their general conditions and pledged to investigate such incidents internally. Edda eventually boarded the flight after complying with the dress code.

Airlines globally retain the right to reject attire deemed “offensive” or “inappropriate” under their policies to maintain order, safety, and hygiene standards. The interpretation of what constitutes “appropriate” attire can vary, often relying on the judgement of airline staff.
