“13-Year-Olds Arrested for Mall Fire in Leicester”

Two 13-year-old adolescents have been apprehended in connection with a severe blaze that engulfed a shopping center in Leicester, necessitating the demolition of part of the structure.

Authorities responded to the incident at Thurmaston Shopping Centre on Barkby Thorpe Lane after a fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 20. A significant response, including eight fire engines, two aerial units, and over 40 firefighters, was dispatched to combat the fire, with the cause remaining unknown after the operation.

Leicestershire Police confirmed that no injuries were reported, and subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest of the two teenagers on suspicion of arson. The police force revealed that ongoing inquiries by the fire service are ongoing to determine the origin of the fire, being treated as a possible case of arson by detectives.

Following a review of CCTV footage in the vicinity, two 13-year-old boys were taken into custody and are presently under police supervision. Detective Inspector Jim Willoughby emphasized the importance of preserving potential evidence by conducting thorough investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

The aftermath of the incident has led to the commencement of demolition work at the site, affecting six units, including popular stores like M&S and Greggs.
