“UK Heatwave: Red Warning Extended to 40C, 22 Areas Affected”

Date:

Temperatures are set to soar close to 40C once again as a rare red warning for “extreme heat” has been prolonged, affecting 22 areas.

The Met Office has declared that 22 regions in London, South East England, and East of England will experience temperatures surpassing 36C, potentially reaching 38C. Initially expected to end on Thursday evening, the red warning has now been extended until Friday at 9 pm.

According to the Met Office, the ongoing hot and humid weather in this area is unprecedented, with significant impacts on the general population expected. The heat will be accompanied by high humidity, leading to warm and muggy nights.

The forecast indicates that the heatwave affecting much of England and Wales will persist on Friday. The focus of the highest temperatures on Friday is likely to shift to east and southeastern England, where temperatures could exceed 36 Celsius, possibly reaching 38 Celsius in certain areas.

The forecaster emphasized that significant disruptions to daily life are anticipated, urging the public to take necessary precautions and adjust daily routines to cope with these unusually high levels of heat for the UK. The original red warning will expire tonight (June 25) in all other designated areas, including those in Wales, the Midlands, and South West England.

Following this, an amber warning for extreme heat will take effect on Saturday, June 27, with temperatures surpassing 30C and peaking at 32-34C in London and East Anglia. A total of 31 areas will be impacted by this warning.
