Around 100 firefighters are currently engaged in extinguishing a significant fire in south-east London. The incident, affecting a shop and storage unit on Rye Lane in Peckham, has prompted a swift response from the London Fire Brigade. Thick plumes of smoke can be seen rising into the sky as the fire crews work diligently to contain the blaze.
Fifteen fire engines have been deployed to the scene, with two of the brigade’s 32-meter turntable ladders utilized to combat the fire from above. Control officers received the first distress call at 8:54 pm, and as of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Footage captured fire engines racing to the scene, showcasing the urgency of the situation with a total of 15 fire engines and 100 firefighters mobilized. London Fire Brigade (LFB) has advised the public to steer clear of the area for safety reasons.
Local residents have been cautioned to keep their windows and doors closed due to the substantial amount of smoke in the vicinity. The LFB confirmed that approximately 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are actively responding to the incident on Rye Lane in Peckham, where a shop and storage unit are affected. The brigade’s specialized turntable ladders are being employed to tackle the fire from above.

Reports indicate that the fire is emanating from Copeland Park, described as “Peckham’s Creative Quarter.” An LFB spokesperson emphasized the importance of residents keeping their windows and doors shut due to the ongoing smoke presence in the area.
