A man has been apprehended for allegedly stealing human remains from a hospital and cemeteries with the purpose of cooking and consuming them.
According to Hungarian police, the 30-year-old suspect, who works as an orderly at the hospital in Budapest, is under investigation for desecrating corpses. The authorities initiated an inquiry after receiving tips that the suspect stored the remains at his residence in one of Budapest’s affluent neighborhoods.
Upon searching his home, officials purportedly discovered a variety of human body parts, including a human face, facial skin, bones, a leg, a hand, skulls, and a heart kept in a preserving jar. The heart is currently undergoing analysis to ascertain its origin.
Notably, a preserved human skin mask, multiple human skulls covered in moss and soil, and other bones stored in a suitcase were also found by officers. It was revealed that the suspect openly discussed his collection of human body parts with acquaintances and family members.
Allegedly, the suspect confessed to harboring an “irresistible obsession” with human body parts and acknowledged obtaining remains from abandoned cemeteries in Hungary and Slovakia. He purportedly used these body parts to prepare and consume various dishes.
As part of the investigation, authorities seized the suspect’s vehicle, computer, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards, and data cards. DNA testing is underway to determine the source of the remains, with police suggesting that additional charges could be filed once the origin of all body parts is established.
In a statement, police noted the suspect’s keen interest in anatomy and pathology, mentioning his fondness for dissecting animals. This incident follows the denial of parole for a convicted killer who admitted to consuming parts of his victim alongside pasta.
