“Putin Connection Suspected in Billionaire’s Assassination Attempt”

Date:

Allegations have surfaced linking Vladimir Putin to an attempted assassination following a detonation of a booby-trapped backpack outside a billionaire’s residence.

Ukrainian billionaire Vadim Ermolaev, 58, is battling for his life after a significant explosion near a luxury home in Monaco, believed by authorities to be a deliberate and targeted assault. His wife, Anna Iermolaieva, has suffered severe injuries, losing both feet and is in a critical condition, while their teenage son was also harmed.

The rare parcel bombing in the secure billionaire enclave has triggered a multinational manhunt, with the suspect reportedly fleeing to neighboring France. Although no specific individual has been implicated in the incident, various theories have emerged regarding potential perpetrators.

Originally from Dnipro, Ukraine, Vadim Ermolaev amassed his wealth through the Alef Group, a diversified conglomerate involved in real estate, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. Renowned for his property development ventures in Dnipro, he and his wife have been actively supporting the Kiddo Charitable Foundation since 2012.

In 2017, Vadim renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and became a Cypriot national. He was later subjected to sanctions imposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy targeting individuals with ties to Russia or Russian-controlled territories.

Operating a significant property business, Mr. Ermolaev has established close business relationships within Russia, where dissident businessmen often face threats of violence orchestrated by the Kremlin.

While his past inclinations suggested a pro-Russian stance, interactions with the Kremlin can swiftly change. Tensions arose when Mr. Ermolaev attempted to regain assets lost in Crimea after the Russian invasion in 2022, prompting the Ukrainian government to freeze his assets for tax-related reasons.

His agricultural firm, Alef Group, heavily invested in eastern and southern Ukraine, regions frequently targeted by shelling, potentially escalating conflicts with influential Russian elites aligned with the Kremlin.

Speculations have arisen implicating Ukraine in the attack, despite Mr. Ermolaev’s strained relationship with Kyiv, as evidenced by his inclusion in their sanctions list and exposure in media investigations focusing on affluent Ukrainians relocating overseas.

However, the likelihood of Ukraine orchestrating a bombing in Monaco seems improbable, given the political ramifications, especially amidst appeals for military assistance from neighboring countries by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Alternately, the attack could have been carried out by individuals associated with organized crime or driven by personal political motives, given Mr. Ermolaev’s involvements in disputed territories susceptible to illicit influence.

French and Monaco authorities are actively pursuing an unidentified suspect, investigating the motive behind the assault. Officials indicated that the family was specifically targeted, with the suspect surveilling the area before executing the attack.

Authorities in Monaco have initiated an attempted murder inquiry, distancing the incident from terrorism-related motives.
