Multiple children have been rushed to the hospital after being found living in extremely poor conditions in a residence described as “extremely malicious” by law enforcement officials.
Four adults have been taken into custody on charges of felony child endangerment following the discovery of the children at a residence in Hamden, Ohio, on June 30.
Authorities disclosed that all 16 children needed immediate medical attention, with two of them airlifted to Level One trauma centers for their injuries.
The Ohio Bureau of Investigation and the local sheriff’s department conducted a search of the property based on information that prompted the inquiry.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson expressed shock at the conditions, noting that they were beyond comprehension, especially for children.
During a press briefing, Wilson remarked that the living conditions of the children were unimaginable and referred to the situation as “extremely malicious.”
The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old, consisted of both boys and girls, as per officials.
The individuals arrested are Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders.
They have not yet appeared in court or been provided with public defenders.
Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney William Archer stated that each of the four individuals faces second-degree felony charges of child endangerment due to the allegations of “serious physical harm.”
Authorities have not confirmed if the children are related but clarified that the case is not being treated as human trafficking. Additionally, the adults were not local residents and seemed to have been traveling.
As the investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officials continued to search the property on Tuesday. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court today. Wilson assured that “justice will be served for these children.”
