A tragic incident occurred on a beach in Spain where a man lost his life after being struck by a cleaning vehicle while he was sleeping. The victim, who was resting on the sand under a blanket at L’Arrabassada Beach in Tarragona, was hit early in the morning. Despite receiving immediate medical attention from paramedics and being conscious when taken to the hospital, the man unfortunately passed away the next day at Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona.
Following the incident, authorities launched a police investigation, and the driver of the cleaning vehicle claimed not to have seen the man due to his obscured visibility. The driver cooperated with law enforcement and tested negative in a breathalyzer test conducted at the scene.
The nationality of the victim has not been disclosed yet. L’Arrabassada Beach, located on the north side of Tarragona’s seafront, is known for its expansive family-friendly environment with fine, golden sands, situated just over a mile and a half from the city marina. This incident brings to mind a similar tragedy where a German tourist lost her life in Gran Canaria in December 2024 after being run over by a delivery vehicle while sunbathing on the beach.
In the Gran Canaria incident, the 64-year-old victim was fatally injured when a 4×4 pick-up vehicle ran over her chest at the Playa del Ingles resort. The driver did not stop after the accident and later claimed ignorance of hitting someone during the lunchtime incident. The tragic event took place near the well-known Maspalomas Dunes, close to a beach kiosk that the delivery vehicle had reportedly serviced. The driver, a local 50-year-old with a decade of beach work experience, was eventually taken into custody.
