Two individuals, a man and a woman, have tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire that occurred in North Tyneside. The incident took place at Cragside Avenue in North Shields, where fire crews responded to a call shortly after 3.30 am today to combat the flames. Despite efforts to rescue all occupants, two people perished in the blaze.
Northumbria Police reported that a man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s were discovered inside the residence and received medical attention. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Another man in his 70s was also found in the house and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
As a precautionary measure, two adjacent properties were evacuated, and a cordon remains in place. The authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire. Detective Inspector Barry McAtominey expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the response to the fire, which involved multiple fire stations and personnel. Additionally, the North East Ambulance Service deployed a significant number of resources to the scene to provide medical assistance.
