A cheerful day out turned tragic for Brittany Clark during a leisurely hike in Florida’s Little Big Econ State Forest with her boyfriend and best friend. While taking a dip in the Econlockhatchee River, a 13-foot alligator suddenly attacked Brittany, resulting in the loss of both her arms. Despite her boyfriend’s brave efforts to save her from the gator’s grip, it was too late to prevent the fatal injuries.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed the capture and euthanization of the alligators involved in the incident. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to bring Brittany’s remains back to California, describing her as a vibrant individual with a love for pets, firearms, and motorcycles.
The Barr Street Trailhead, where the tragedy occurred, has been closed temporarily. Although rare, alligator attacks can be more common during their mating season, which spans from April to June. The community mourns the loss of Brittany, with heartfelt tributes shared by her loved ones.
